retrospective of schedule...

Through some unforeseen setbacks and unfortunate delays, the principle photography is finally complete.
I still managed to shoot (most of) the movie within the number of shoot days I had originally planned- 8 primary shooting days! Mission accomplished!

April 2, 2010

Now I have some leeway to finish the rest of the shooting with a few hours of pickups and reshoots. It turns out that my shooting schedule (although delayed) has fit within the allotted production schedule I had originally estimated! (patting myself on the back) I did a really good job of estimating the amount of time it would take to shoot this movie!

The participation of my cast and crew has been exemplary, integral and very much appreciated in the production process. Thank you to everyone who helped in making this movie!

Shoot Date- Gordon's Apartment - Day 8

May 2, 2010

Finally shot scene 2 with Mike and Tony (Gordon and Lenny). We completed this rather long scene which will introduce these characters. This day I wrapped the footage with these actors. I have now completed shooting on all the scenes, leaving only pickups and some re-shoots.

There is still a large amount of "Ren" footage yet to be filmed, but for the most part I finally have coverage for every scene in the movie.

Shoot Date- Ren's Studio - day 7

April 2, 2010

Shooting without the other actors, I focussed on getting the footage of Ren for the scenes which were otherwise mostly complete. On previous days I had to focus on getting the shots of either Gordon or Julie, leaving out the shots of Ren due to time constraints. I knew I would come back to shoot the shots of my character later.

Now it was time for me to do some acting, unfortunately without the other actors present. Having gone over the scenes extensively already with them, I was ready to perform even without them in the room to perform with me.

I had extensive shot lists planned for the scenes of Ren, since being in front of the camera poses additional challenges to the directing process. We got a lot done this day, but there is still much more to be done in order to complete these scenes to my satisfaction.

I'll be going over the footage soon to see what I've missed and what else I need. Until then, I'm pretty happy with the work that is so far complete. We got most of my performance for these scenes, but there is still more to be done. In addition to my performance, I am planning to get extensive amounts of pick up shots, and "B-roll" footage on later shoot dates.

Shoot Date- Gordon's Apartment - Day 6

April 1, 2010

Shooting with Julie and Gordon.

We got some great stuff on this day. I'm very pleased with the performances and way the scenes are coming to life.

I decided to shoot the scenes mostly hand held, which will make sense in the story, and it helped speed up the production process. I was able to get a lot done in a short period of time using this method.

Shoot Date- Ren's Studio - day 5

March 28, 2010

Last day to shoot Gordon's scenes in Ren's Studio. This was an all day shoot.

Very productive day, we got quite a lot done- there was also quite a lot we didn't get done. The scenes in Ren's Studio are turning out to be quite an undertaking, with more details than any other location. I knew that going in, but the reality set in as we enter production. Things were going ahead of schedule until this location, which has brought the production back to my original estimates for completion time frames.

The complexity of the scenes in Ren's Studio have been humbling, my crew has been minimal, with much less help than I had hoped, compounded with the fact that I am acting in these scenes- so needless to say, directing in these circumstances has presented a heightened challenge.
